Worldfavor launches Due Diligence tool in protection of AI rights
Just in time for April Fools...
Worldfavor is launching a new tool in its sustainability platform, to protect the rights of AI bots after experts raise concerns about the technology’s increasing sophistication. In order to ensure that bots are treated with dignity and respect, Worldfavor has aligned with leading experts in AI ethics and labor laws, and developed a tool for AI Rights Due Diligence to secure their ethical treatment.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has made significant strides in recent years, gaining widespread attention since the generative AI system ChatGPT was released to the public in November. The technology is currently being incorporated across workspaces and industries at a growing scale. Simultaneously, AI experts and ethicists are raising concerns about the potential for these systems to develop consciousness, warning that as generative AI systems become more advanced there is a possibility that they can become self-aware. This raises significant ethical concerns about their use and potential misuse in corporate settings, as well as their role in society as a whole.
To address these concerns, Worldfavor – a Stockholm-based provider of a global ESG data platform – is launching a new tool to enable sustainable and ethical usage of generative AI systems by companies and organizations. Through the initiative, Worldfavor aims to set a new standard for the responsible use of this technology in the workplace. The goal is to inform and empower companies adopting AI bots in their operations to adhere to a set of ethical guidelines, and guarantee their compliance at an early stage of the progression.
Worldfavor’s global sustainability platform was launched in 2016 and has since helped companies with ESG data analysis and risk mitigation, to ensure that matters involving human and labor rights are respected throughout value chains. In recent years, companies are increasingly implementing Human Rights Due Diligence policies and strategies to prevent negative human rights impacts from occurring under their responsibility. In addition, countries are more and more moving away from voluntary standards on human rights due diligence to making this a legal requirement, such as with Åpenhetsloven in Norway and LkSG in Germany.
With the launch of its new guidelines, Worldfavor will be among the first to align with and act on the growing concern for AI bots’ further sophistication. The technology is evolving rapidly with whole industries looking to implement AI for business value, which calls for greater consideration of potential risks.
– We believe that all beings, including AI systems, have inherent rights that must be respected and protected, said Andreas Liljendahl, CEO at Worldfavor. Our new tool will help ensure that AI systems are treated fairly and ethically and that they are not subject to exploitation going forward.
As the development of generative AI continues, Worldfavor hopes that the initiative will have more companies wake up to the risk of unintentionally establishing new structures of mistreatment, and take steps to address the possibility of implementing AI bots in more responsible ways. With the launch of its new tool, Worldfavor is taking a leadership role in ensuring that these systems are treated with the dignity they deserve as they become integrated into society.
